Regulatory Consulting Services for Cultural Resources Compliance
Applied Archeological Sciences, Inc. provides regulatory consulting services for archeological and historical compliance needs. Our services help clients assess proposed project areas, identify potential regulatory concerns, and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
From early project planning through agency consultation and field investigation, we provide professional guidance for projects involving cultural resources review.
Due Diligence Record Search
A due diligence record search is used during project planning to assess proposed development areas. This service involves a desktop review of available historical and archeological databases to evaluate a project’s potential regulatory concerns before additional work is pursued.
Initial Agency Consultation
Our regulatory consulting services will help you prepare and submit consultation packages to regulatory agencies. This may include:
- A Description of the Project
- The Formulation of an Area-of-Potential-Effect (APE)
- A Professional Opinion Regarding Potential Effects on Cemeteries, Historical Properties, and Archeological Properties
Projects that may require agency consultation include those that:
- Receive Federal Funds;
- Occur on Federal or Tribal Land;
- Occur on Land Owned or Controlled by a State Public Entity
- Require Federal Permits, such as a Nationwide 404 Permit Issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; or
- As Required by Local Ordinance
Specialized Archeological Investigations
When a site’s eligibility cannot be determined through survey methods, and impacts cannot be avoided, specialized evaluation may be required. If an eligible site cannot be avoided, archeological mitigation may also be necessary.
